Refrigerant Hazards

What you need to know to protect your shop and your health:

Professional technicians need to be aware of the potential hazards from refrigerants being used in cars today. There are now over 10 refrigerants legal for use in, cars as well as other refrigerants that are illegal and dangerous, such as propane and butane.

If you mix refrigerants – the combination will NOT work in an A/C system, and accidental mixing can ruin your shop's supply of refrigerant. If propane or butane are present in an A/C system that a customer brings in, the mixture could be explosive!

The only way of knowing what is in an A/C system, storage cylinder, or container is to use a refrigerant identifier.

Every A/C service should start with identification – even when working from a newly purchased cylinder or tank. Neutronics is the #1 manufacturer of refrigerant identifiers in the world with over 40,000 in use today.
